During the years I struggled to get pregnant, I found an unexpected sense of peace in photographing expecting families. I honestly thought it would hurt every time I photographed another mama who was so close to holding her baby while I couldn't even get pregnant myself—but somehow, the opposite happened.

There was a happiness that grew inside me with every maternity inquiry, every session and every mama I helped choose the perfect dress. Photographing this season became calming and peaceful for me in a way I never expected.

Eventually, IVF and a couple of pretty incredible miracles gave me the opportunity to carry my own babies. But that love for maternity photography never left. Capturing the anticipation, connection and excitement surrounding new life is still one of my favorite things to photograph.
